FATHER RELATIONSHIP
His father, Kamel Remili, was a professional handball player and was sporting director at Creteil when he started training with the club at age 11. "My father has always managed the relationship with me well, he has never gotten between the coaches and his son. The relationship is always strong and indeed dad watches all my matches. He always delivers an interesting opinion on the why and how [a match went a certain way]. It helps me to have a better analysis. He is very objective and very rigorous in his way of judging my performances, and he doesn't sugar coat things - if he doesn't like my behaviour, he never hesitates to tell me." His father was born and grew up in Algeria, and he would visit the country on holiday as a child. "I have a lot of affection for my father's country of origin." (ffhandball.fr, 07 Jan 2021; world-today-news.com, 20 Jan 2021; leparisien.fr, 20 Jan 2021)

HONEST ASSESSMENT
He believes France will find it difficult to repeat the period of success that saw the men's team win back-to-back Olympic gold in 2008 and 2012 and multiple world titles. "We've known for a while that the golden days are over. Everything that made the strength of this team has gradually dissolved over time. Now there is a new team and we have to build ourselves. We may not collectively be as ready as other nations. We are living in a period of transition. Some find it difficult to accept that the France team, after having dominated, can experience such a phase. For them, we should always be perfect. But today, this team has changed and the state of world handball means that there is no longer a team that dominates as much." (sport24.lefigaro.fr, 13 Jan 2021)
