RETIREMENT THOUGHTS
He says he initially considered retiring from the sport in 2020 but was forced to put his retirement plans on hold after the one-year postponement of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo due to the COVID-19 pandemic. "We were all very excited to go to the Games after winning the 2020 European championships, and it was hard, a bad moment [the postponement], but I thought I should continue playing, it was very clear." (marca.com, 02 Feb 2021)

FIRST OLYMPIC EXPERIENCE
He took part in the opening ceremony of the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. "I was one of the children who stretched the boat 'La Fura del Baus' and it is something I will always remember. A nice memory and a first relationship with the Olympic Games. Then I was lucky enough to participate in 2012, one of the most beautiful sports moments that I have experienced. It is very special for everything that surrounds it, for all that it represents worldwide. It is unique." (avancedeportivo.es, 23 Jun 2020)

NAME ORIGIN
He says that his given name 'Viran' is a combination of his mother and father's names, and that his father came up with the idea for the name. (entrevistas.sport.es, 23 Mar 2012)
