The US women's sabre team have claimed bronze at both editions of the Olympic Games in which the event has been contested, in 2008 and 2016. In Beijing in 2008, the United States of America lost out to eventual gold medallists Ukraine in the semifinals, before rallying to beat France in the bronze medal match. At the 2016 Games in Rio, they again suffered defeat at the semifinal stage, this time to the Russian Federation, but were able to repeat their performance from 2008 and take the bronze 45-30 against Italy. The US team qualified for Tokyo as the top-ranked team from the Americas zone outside the world's top four nations.

The United States of America have been crowned world champions on three occasions, a tally equal with France and Italy, and only bettered by the Russian Federation's record of eight world titles. Their most recent title came at the 2014 World Championships in Kazan, where they overcame Ukraine in the semifinals before beating France in the gold medal match. At the 2019 World Championships in Budapest, the US team were eliminated at the quarterfinal stage by the Republic of Korea, and ended the tournament ranked seventh following classification matches against Ukraine and the People's Republic of China.

The United States of America have been the dominant force at continental level, winning 13 out of 14 titles at the Pan American championships between 2006 and 2019. In addition, the team won gold at the last three editions of the Pan American Games [2011, 2015 and 2019].
