General Interest

General
Egypt are competing at their third Olympic Games after contesting the last two Games to feature women's team foil, in 2008 and 2012. They qualified for Tokyo as the top-ranked African team outside the world's top four nations.

The Egyptian team are looking for their first win on the Olympic stage. At the 2012 Games in London, their only match was in the preliminary round against hosts Great Britain, who won 45-34. Four years previously in Beijing they also went home without a victory, after defeats to the Russian Federation, the People's Republic of China and Poland.

Egypt are also yet to make a major impression at the world championships. At the 2019 edition in Budapest, they were narrowly beaten 45-44 by Singapore in the round of 32, and ranked 18th.

At continental level the team has been more successful. They won 13 medals at the African championships between 2004 and 2019, including seven titles. They also claimed gold at the 2019 All-Africa Games in Morocco.
