General Interest

General
The Republic of Korea have competed at four of the five Olympic Games in which women's team epee has been contested. They secured a place at the 2020 Games in Tokyo by ranking among the world's top four nations.

The Korean team won a silver medal at the 2012 Games in London, losing 39-25 to their continental rivals the People's Republic of China in the final. Prior to London, they finished 10th as the event made its debut at Atlanta 1996 and seventh at Athens 2004. At the 2016 Games in Rio, they narrowly lost out by one point to Estonia at the quarterfinal stage, and went on to place sixth following classification matches against Ukraine and the United States of America.

The Republic of Korea achieved top-10 finishes at each edition of the world championships between 2009 and 2019, including bronze in 2010 and silver in 2018. At the most recent edition in 2019, they defeated Mexico and Romania before losing against the Chinese team in the quarterfinals. The Korean team finished with an overall ranking of seventh after classification matches against the United States of America and Poland.

At continental level, they have reached the podium at every edition of the Asian Games to feature the event between 1990 and 2018, and won gold over the Chinese team in 2002. They were forced to settle for the runners-up spot behind the People's Republic of China at the two most recent editions of the Games in 2014 and 2018. They did, however, turn the tables on their Chinese rivals to take gold at the 2019 Asian Championships in Japan.
