General Interest

General
Tokyo 2020 will be Hong Kong, China's first participation in women's team epee at the Olympic Games. They qualified for Tokyo as the top-ranked Asian team outside the world's top four.

Hong Kong, China have competed at 19 editions of the world championships since 1993, but are yet to win a medal or achieve a top-10 finish. Their ranking of 11th at the 2018 World Championships in Wuxi represents their best performance at the tournament. At the 2019 edition in Budapest, they notched one victory, in the round of 32 against Venezuela, before defeat to Estonia in the last 16 and losses to Japan, Switzerland and Canada in the classification rounds saw them finish the tournament ranked 16th.

The team have seen more success at continental level, winning five consecutive bronze medals at the Asian Games between 2002 and 2018, and silver and bronze at the two most recent editions of the Asian championships in 2018 and 2019, respectively.
