Egypt have a best finish of fourth at the Olympic Games, achieved in Helsinki in 1952 by reaching the four-team final round-robin stage, only to be beaten three times.

Egypt have competed at the past three editions of the Olympic Games to feature the team foil event. In London in 2012, they took on the hosts in a one-off round of 16 contest and were knocked out to finish ninth. Four years later n Rio de Janeiro, they competed directly in the quarterfinal stage but were beaten by Italy, then Great Britain in the classification round. They were able to overcome hosts Brazil in their final match to secure a seventh-place finish.

Egypt won their place at the Tokyo Games by finishing as the top African team on the 2020/21 team foil world ranking list, their eighth rank well clear of the 27th-ranked Tunisia, the next best team from the continent.

Egypt are three-time world championships bronze medallists - won in 1949, 1950 and 1951 - and in recent years have risen up the ranks to be legitimate top-10 contenders. In the past four editions of the event, they have twice finished ninth, their best finishes since those mid-1900s podiums.

At continental level, they are dominant. In 14 editions of the African championships between 2004 and 2019 they were never topped and were kept from gold at only one of the three African Games fencing tournaments from 2007 to 2019.
