General Interest

General
Canada are making their third Olympic appearance in men's team foil at Tokyo 2020. They finished 13th on debut in 1972 in Munich and 11th 14 years later at Seoul 1988. Canada secured qualification for Tokyo as the top-ranked team from the Americas outside the world's top four nations.

The Canadian team are yet to finish in the top 10 at the world championships, with 12th place representing their highest ranking since the turn of the century, which they achieved on four occasions between 2002 and 2009. At the 2019 World Championships in Budapest, they were eliminated in the round of 16 by France, before finishing with an overall rank of 16th following losses to Japan, Poland and Ukraine in the classification rounds.

Reflecting their place among the best teams in the Americas, they are regular podium finishers at the Pan American Games, although they are yet to reach the top step. They won back-to-back titles at the Pan American championships in 2006 and 2007. At the most recent editions of both tournaments, in 2019, they won bronze at the Pan American Games and silver at the Pan American championships.
