His wife Silva is a dressage rider, who is originally from Germany but switched to compete for the United States of America. Both his parents competed at the 1968 Olympic Winter Games in Grenoble. His mother Toy Dorgan represented the United States of America in speed skating, while his father Ross competed in cross-country skiing for Australia.
