FROM MEXICO TO DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
Having previously represented Mexico, he opted to compete for the Dominican Republic after some conflicts with the Mexican federation before the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. "A Dominican friend named Frandiel Gomez, who came to Mexico several times to train under my coach Francisco Rueda, said he could ask the [Dominican] federation to have the chance of living and training there. I did not have any clear path to go. I was hurt and almost fell into a deep depression. I had the support of many people. Once in the Dominican Republic I began having fun, being on the beach, spending time with friends. As I was not competing it was my escape away." In 2019 he received citizenship from the Dominican Republic and was granted permission to return to Leon, Mexico, to train with coach Francisco Rueda.
