SYNCHRONISED PARTNER
In 2017 he began competing in 3m synchronised springboard alongside Juan Celaya. He believes their partnership works even though Celaya trains at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in the United States of America, while Castillo is based in Mexico City, Mexico. "Before the [2019] world championships, the world series and the [2019] Pan American Games I went to Louisiana for three weeks to do a training camp there, and before that he came to Mexico City to train at the National High Performance Centre [CNAR]. We manage to make it work. Our technique is similar and we don't need to spend too much time synchronising. We just count, 'One, two, three', and each one of us is focused. We have a similar technique due to our first coaches who gave us a good training basis. I am very happy because he is a good person and a great athlete." (razon.com.mx, 13 Sep 2019; esto.com.mx, 07 Sep 2019)

OCCUPATION
He has served as an athlete member of the Mexican Army with a rank of first sergeant in physical education and sports. (Instagram profile, 19 Feb 2021; mediotiempo.com, 20 Nov 2020; milenio.com, 06 Nov 2020)
