CHANGE OF PARTNER
After competing in synchronised diving alongside German Sanchez since 2010, the pair only competed together once between the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and mid 2021 due to both men sustaining injuries. Garcia competed alongside Andres Villarreal and Kevin Berlin instead before being partnered with Randal Willars in 2021 after Willars' teammate Diego Balleza got injured. The new partnership won silver at the 2021 World Cup event in Tokyo, Japan and claimed the Olympic quota for Mexico in the synchronised 10m platform for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. The Mexican coaching team then decided to keep the new partnership together. "We are a team that has had so little training together but that does not mean we do not have quality. I'm happy how things have matched together and now Mexico has a new combination. I dream about winning an Olympic medal together with Randal." (milenio.com, 05 May 2021, 03 Apr 2021)

INJURY STRUGGLE
After the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro he did not compete internationally again until late 2018, due to repetitive problems with his knees. "It was long and tough. I underwent surgery in October 2016 and did six months of rehabilitation. I thought I was ready to train again but, when I got back, I realised I couldn't do it. I underwent another surgery and it was a hard blow for my mind. I reached a point in which I began believing what doctors had told me, that I wouldn't even walk again. One of the things that helped me was being with my family. The birth of my daughter Ivana in 2017 gave me a boost of energy and motivation."
