Leigh Howard and Kelland O'Brien are competing as a pair at a major international tournament for the first time at Tokyo 2020.
Howard is by far the more experienced rider of the two. Competing with Cameron Meyer, he won back-to-back gold medals at the world championships in 2010 and 2011, as well as silver in 2009 and bronze in 2012. After turning his focus to road cycling for a number of years, Howard made his return to the track cycling world championships in 2019 and finished fourth, again competing with Meyer.
O'Brien is a two-time gold medallist at the Oceania championships, securing the title in 2016 with Callum Scotson and in 2020 with Sam Welsford. He also won silver with Rohan Wight in 2017.
