General Interest

General
FROM RIO TO TOKYO
He was disappointed with his performance at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, where he placed sixth in team sprint and 11th in sprint. He believes that pressure was an issue, so he began working with a psychologist in the lead-up to the 2020 Games in Tokyo. "I really thought, '[Competing at the Olympic Games] is the biggest thing you can experience as an athlete'. In Rio, I put myself under a lot of pressure. My times were not so good, but how was it that the rest suddenly rode so fast? Because everyone really does everything for the Games. I was depressed after Rio for quite a while. [After working with a psychologist] I have more room to think about progress and improvements. I used to be quite chaotic about that, now it's all about cycling." (tubantia.nl, 20 Feb 2020)
