RIDING HOME
She was due to compete in the 2020 Bretagne Ladies Tour in France, but the race was cancelled just as she arrived in the town where the race was due to start. She had driven to France from Germany with her mother, and instead of going home by car she decided to do her own individual five-day tour and cycle back to Germany, covering between 150km and 240km a day. "We left home on Friday morning at 08:30 and drove 11 hours to Serent, France. Literally the minute that we arrived I got the message that the race had been cancelled. I didn't want to sit in the car again the next day so I decided to ride home. I came up with the idea and then asked my coach, who agreed. So I sat down that evening and planned the route. At first my mum was like, 'This is a joke' and I said, 'No it isn't'. I just did it because I needed to train anyway and I thought, 'Okay, it's a good alternative'. I decided to do five days and I thought, 'It's actually kind of cool because the stage race would have also been five days'." (cyclingtips.com, 11 Nov 2020; wmncycling.com, 28 Oct 2020)
