In March 2016 she crashed on a descent during the Italian World Tour race Trofeo Alfredo Binda. She was immediately taken to hospital in Varese, where her left kidney had to be removed in an emergency operation. She also broke a rib. She was not able to race for more than two months, making her comeback in June 2016 during the Auensteiner Radsporttage in Germany.
