He played football before he began focusing to cycling. "It started out as a hobby. I was riding my bike in my neighbourhood. Afterwards I started going out of town to try to go a little bit more and was detected by a club in Bobo-Dioulasso [Burkina Faso]. They sponsored me and offered me a bike."
