:
She was involved in gymnastics for 10 years when she was younger, but her career in the sport ended after she tore ligaments in her ankle. Her father then encouraged her to start cycling. "I was unable to get back to the same level as before [in gymnastics]. My dad had been nagging me for a long time to try out cycling but I was never too keen. Eventually I tried it but I struggled in the beginning, not enjoying it all that much. The bicycle wasn't love at first sight and I took some time to get used to the intensity, duration, and sore behind." (inthebunch.co.za, 20 Feb 2018)

"The thing I love the most about cycling is that you can set goals and work hard to achieve them. That gives me great joy. And the fact that you can almost never achieve it all. There will always be another interval session to smash, a personal best to squat, a new race to win. There is always another challenge out there." (positivesportssolutions.co.za, 08 Aug 2018)

In 2018 and 2019 she received the SupportSATalent Female Cyclist of the Year award. (sciencetosport.com, 01 Jan 2020)

HIATUS
She began cycling in high school but then took a four-year break from the sport while she was studying at the University of Free State in Bloemfontein, South Africa. "I raced for a couple of years but then quit in 2009. I restarted in 2013 when Stefan, who is now my husband, and I started dating again and he got me back onto the bike. I didn't want to race competitively and we rode mountain bike for more than a year. I decided to do one race just for fun and then slowly but surely the bug bit and it became more serious, until I raced a full calendar again." (positivesportssolutions.co.za, 08 Aug 2018)

OCCUPATION
She owns a physiotherapy practise, a company that makes jams and chutneys, and has a share in a cafe in Clarens, South Africa. (Facebook profile, 03 Jun 2021; LinkedIn profile, 01 Jan 2019)
