He initially played soft tennis while in middle school. He got involved in cycling in high school after he was inspired by a Japanese comic book called 'Shakariki'. Although he took a break from the sport in order to get into a university where he aspired to study aerospace engineering, afterwards he decided to focus on the sport. "The pilot's ability is similar to the hill-climbing method, so road cycling was one of the training methods. When I retired from being a pilot, I remembered the time that I kept stepping on the pedal desperately. It made me want to become a professional cyclist."
