General Interest

General
OFF-SEASON
At the end of each season he has three weeks off the bike to focus on complete rest and recovery. "You need a period of disconnection when the season ends, without training, to give your body and mind a rest once a year. I usually go about three weeks without training in October or November. Then I always try to make a smart plan for the following season, with a little rest and time to train properly between races. If possible, I never race more than three weekends in a row and I don't race just to train. If I compete I want to be at my best." (mountainbike.es, 29 Jun 2020)

LONG-TERM RELATIONSHIPS
He began working with coach Nicolas Siegenthaler in 2000, and first joined the Scott-Sram MTB Racing team in 2003. "I have been with the same coach, Nicolas Siegenthaler, for 20 years [speaking in 2020]. I was lucky to find a great coach from the beginning and he soon saw the special needs of this sport. Today [speaking in 2020] I can reap the benefits of a long-term relationship, similar to that of the team." (mountainbike.es, 29 Jun 2020)

ROAD BIKE
He has competed in road cycling and includes the sport in his training regime. "Most people are surprised to hear that I do around 45% of my training rides on a road bike. Especially recovery or base mile rides are mainly done on the road. It is easier to keep a certain cadence without too much intensity. But the ones I really enjoy are the rides in the high mountains. To wind up some alpine passes in spectacular landscapes and enjoy the high speed of the descents, that's what makes this sport so beautiful to me. My first love will always be mountain biking, but road cycling is also something I truly love." (scott-sports.com, 09 Jul 2020)
