"Wisdom is being patient and listening to what life is telling you. For me wisdom is in nature, it is open to anyone who is ready to hear it. There are so many exterior factors which happen during the race or in the stadium and they can change the result at any moment." (Olympic Village Daily, 10 Feb 2014)

POST BEIJING RETIREMENT
She plans to retire from sport after the 2020 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. "I wanted to retire [from mountain bike] after the Games in 2020, but I had to keep training another year after they were postponed to 2021. I wanted to finish my sport career completely after the 2022 winter Olympics, after competing in both Games in the same year. My next journey will be that as a full-time mother, to spend more time with my family." (quebechebdo.com, 26 Jan 2021)

MOUNTAIN BIKING, SKIING COUPLE
Her husband Guido Visser represented Canada in cross-country skiing at the 1998 Olympic Winter Games in Nagano, and competed in mountain biking at international level, including at multiple editions of the world championships. "I needed to go to Canada for a qualification event for the 2004 Olympic Games. I asked the Canadian team coach, Michel Leblanc, to help me find somewhere to stay and it was Guido Visser who welcomed me to stay with him. It was love at first sight, and we married in 2004 right after the [Athens] Olympics." (quebechebdo.com, 26 Jan 2021; SportsDeskOnline, 01 Jul 2021)

SKIING ORIGINS
She first began skiing in Canada in 2005 after a snow storm prevented her from continuing her cycling training. Her husband, Guido Visser, introduced her to the sport. "Just like mountain biking, you're out in nature, keeping active. So after my cycling season was over I said to my husband, 'I want to compete at the winter Olympics in 2006. I learnt to ski in four months, but all I could do was push - he had to put the skis on for me! The 2006 winter Olympics was my funnest Olympics, because it was so unexpected." (quebechebdo.com, 26 Jan 2021)

LIVING IN CANADA
She lives in Quebec, Canada, where she is married and has a family, but says she has never felt the urge to compete for Canada. "I didn't want to take the place of a Canadian athlete. But I feel Quebecois. I have two children here." (quebechebdo.com, 26 Jan 2021)

FURTHER EDUCATION
She holds a master's degree in exercise physiology. (ride.lezyne.com, 2020)
