In February 2018 he broke his left radius bone and his right wrist in a crash during the third stage of the Tankwa Trek event in South Africa. He required an operation on his left radius, and was back on his bike the following month. The injury did not prevent him competing at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, QLD, Australia, where he won a bronze medal.
