He initially got involved in the sport because his father was a cycling enthusiast. A coach then invited him to join a high performance cycling school in the state of Jalisco in Mexico. He also practised road cycling and track cycling before starting to focus more on mountain bike as he enjoyed the thrill of wet courses with tree roots and stones, as well as the speed of races.
