FAMILY AFFAIR
His grandfather Josef began paddling in 1967 and started a family tradition in the sport. Josef's son Petr Sr. went on to compete at the Olympic Games and introduced his sons Petr Jr. and Martin to the sport. Martin has competed at the Olympic Games and has won world titles. Petr Jr. and Martin first competed together as C2 crewmates in 2017, and he says he feels pressure to live up to his family's reputation in the sport. "The well-known name is both an advantage and disadvantage. Not just from my father, but mainly because of Martin, because he is so good. It is a terrible pressure. According to some people, because I have the same last name, I should get the same results as him. People should realise that Martin is very good and not everyone can be like him. In addition, we have slightly different styles and grips - I paddle to the left." The brothers are coached by their father and grandfather. "Grandpa is the brain of the team. He writes training plans, which we then follow under dad's guidance." (isport.blesk.cz, 03 Sep 2020)
