SANCTION
In February 2017 he received a four-year suspension from the International Canoe Federation [ICF] following adverse results from an out-of-competition anti-doping test taken in July 2016. The ban was backdated to the date of the sample and he lost the Olympic bronze medal he had won in the C1 1000m at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro.
