General Interest

General
POPULARITY IN SPAIN
Despite having won four Olympic medals, including two gold, he says his popularity in Spain is mostly due to his appearance on the 2017 Spanish version of the MasterChef television show. "I have been training for many years, but people really only know me due to MasterChef. I am a professional athlete, not a chef, but I don't regret participating in the show, because it helped raise the profile of canoeing in this country, and that is very positive." The appearance even affected his job as a policeman. "Some criminals recognised me because of the programme and it started to be dangerous." (elmundo.es, 24 Dec 2019; superdeporte.es, 29 Oct 2019; elespanol.com, 14 Feb 2019; elespanol.com, 09 May 2018; marca.com, 22 Nov 2017)

BOOK
In 2017 he wrote a book called 'Four Anos Para 32 Segundos' [Four Years for 32 seconds], in which he recounts his life and achievements in sport. (cope.es, 23 Oct 2019; saulcraviotto.com, 15 Dec 2017)

2012 OLYMPIC PROPOSAL
He proposed to his wife, Celia Garcia, at Piccadilly Circus in London the day after winning a silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games. "There were a lot of people around and I didn't dare to kneel down." (Facebook page, 06 Feb 2020; elespanol.com, 14 Feb 2019; cope.es, 02 Jun 2016)
