He had a bet with a friend that he could qualify for the Olympic Games. "I thought it would be quite easy because I had just started surf ski paddling. So, the next thing you know I go to my first kayaking regatta, it was in Adelaide [Australia] in December 2010 and I fell out of the kayak with the first stroke. If you had picked someone to go to the Olympics from our surf club, it would never have been me." (dailytelegraph.com.au, 13 Aug 2016; canoe.org.au, 01 Jan 2015)

General Interest

General
BREAK AND RETURN
He took a two-year break from the sport before returning to competition in early 2019. "I first just had a break to get back in touch with life, get a reality check and do a lot of surfing and building houses and walking the dog, so it was nice to do that. Then I started back in training and injured my right shoulder, and needed an operation in May 2018, so that really hampered what I had planned to do. I wanted to be back on the [national] team in 2018. I would love to go to another Olympics but it's more about being fit and healthy for me. I'm just happy being on the better side of fit and healthy at the moment [2019]." (paddle.org.au, 11 Feb 2019)

OCCUPATION
He runs his own business called Lachlan Tame Constructions and Renovations in Avoca Beach, NSW, Australia. (paddle.org.au, 10 Apr 2019; LinkedIn profile, 01 Feb 2017)
