"I began when I was about five, on weekends with my parents and my brother, just for fun. It was only around the age of 14 to 15 that I started to compete." (larepubliquedespyrenees.fr, 14 Aug 2015; francaisedesjeux.com, 01 Apr 2010)

He credits his parents with getting him into the sport, as they would go on family kayaking trips during holidays. "Every holidays, we would be out paddling on the Garonne, in the Landes." At age 15 he started competing, when a coach brought together several clubs in his region for a competition. "Canoe-kayak for me is more than a passion. I love it." (kayablog.fr, 01 Dec 2010)

FOURTH TIME LUCKY
After missing out on selection for France for the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games, he finally earned selection to represent France in K1 at the Olympic Games in Tokyo in late 2020. He had to rely on bonus points credited to him by the French federation for international results achieved in previous years, as he [and his French competitors] failed to win the selection criteria outright. "I didn't see myself gaining selection like that. For me, to be selected, I had to be good and I had to win. In the end, I was not very good but the others did not manage to pass me either, so I am relieved. When you're a competitor, you always want to be good. And that's not what happened, so there are going to be lessons to be learned for the future. But it's better that it happens here than in Tokyo. It was not pretty, but I hope it will serve as a stepping stone and I can aim high in Tokyo." (sportbusinessmag.com, 12 Oct 2020; petitbleu.fr, 19 Nov 2020; larepubliquedespyrenees.fr, 11 Oct 2020)
