Both of her parents have competed in canoe slalom at the Olympic Games. Her mother Myriam won bronze in K1 for France at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, while her father Richard represented Great Britain at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. Her parents introduced her to the sport as a small child. She began paddling on her own in 2005. (canoe.org.au, 09 Aug 2015)
:
Her parents competed in the sport at Olympic level, and she became hooked after taking it up to strengthen an arm that she broke in gymnastics. "Having parents who were Olympians and knowing some of the athletes who went to the Olympics in Sydney, Athens and Beijing was very inspiring. I was glued to the TV and dreamt of going there one day myself. When I took up paddling in 2005 it was first for rehab, as I'd broken my arm and my physio suggested it. I quickly improved and wanted to see how far I could go in the sport." (canoe.org.au, 09 Aug 2015; smh.com.au, 07 Oct 2018)

General Interest

General
MOTHER AS COACH
Her mother Myriam Fox is also her coach. "Obviously she's been an amazing role model for me, but also for a lot of women in my sport and a lot of athletes [and] coaches, because she's a female coach and there are not many female coaches around. She was one of the first. You know, in the '90s it wasn't all that common to be an athlete, have a baby and then come back to the highest level and win an Olympic medal. So it really inspired a lot of people, it inspired me a lot. And as a coach she's always really open to helping other women, to really mentoring, to cement the place of women in elite sport." (tokyo2020.org, 15 Mar 2021)

DUAL EVENT DREAM IN TOKYO
She has won multiple world titles in the C1 event, which has been added to the Olympic programme for the 2020 Games in Tokyo. She is aiming to compete in both C1 and K1 events in Tokyo. "I don't think it takes the pressure off, it probably puts more pressure on. That gold medal is the dream goal in Tokyo. If I could have the opportunity to do the two classes that would be incredible." (sportsradio.com.au, 28 Nov 2018)

HERITAGE
Her mother is French and her father is from Great Britain. She was born in France but arrived in Australia in 1998, at age four, when her father was offered the role of coach for the Australian canoe slalom team ahead of the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney. "I'm a bit of the three. I was born in France so I have my roots there but also in England. I've pretty much grown up in Australia so I guess I'm a bit more Australian but I like to think that I have all three in me." (CanoeKayakTV, 13 Feb 2011; redbull.com, 21 Jun 2015)

The two gold medals she won at the 2018 World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, saw her become the first female slalom paddler to win nine total world championship gold medals. Her mother Myriam held the previous record with eight world titles while representing France from 1983 to 1995. (SportsDeskOnline, 18 Aug 2019)
