He discovered the sport through a social project called 'Navega Sao Paulo'. He was inspired to become a canoeist after watching the Brazilian canoe sprint national team training in his hometown Piraju, Brazil. However he was sent to sailing for one year after a sports coach considered him too short for canoeing. In April 2020 he launched the 'Together We Are Stronger' online campaign to help raise funds and donate food and cleaning products to families in need in his hometown of Piraju, Brazil, during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. "Together we are stronger, and that has to be the motto during this quarantine. Together we can do so much more and thank you to everyone who donated and shared. I feel blessed and honoured that I could reach, thanks to my image and visibility, those people who helped to make all of this happen."
