She began practising swimming under the guidance of her father to help with a congenital heart problem. She was later spotted by the municipal canoe coach of Primavera do Leste, Brazil, who invited her to try the sport. "I was invited by him because my body type suited paddling. The first time I was on a boat it was to compete. The feeling was the most amazing I had ever felt. I wanted to paddle every day, I was so passionate. It was something new, I was tired of the hard swimming training." (globoesporte.globo.com, 05 Aug 2019; Olimpiada Todo Dia YouTube channel, 08 Apr 2020; Athlete, 27 Jul 2021)

FAREWELL TO COACH
She says that after Italian coach Ettore Vivaldi left the Brazilian national set-up following the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, she thought about quitting the sport. She credits Vivaldi as having a major influence on her career. "He was like a second father to me, a very important person in my sporting development. It was a very difficult moment [when he left] as we were very close. I didn't want to go on without him so I thought about going to study paediatrics, which was my other dream. I was invited to join the Italian team so I could be with him but I could never see myself representing another country." She has since begun working with international slalom paddler Mathieu Desnos, who is also her partner. "It was not planned that he would come to Brazil and begin coaching me, it just happened. Mathieu is so important in my life. I need to have trust in a coach. After Ettore I could only find it in Mathieu." (otempo.com.br, 03 Jun 2020; correiobraziliense.com.br, 06 Mar 2020; dollo-pagaies.fr, 04 Dec 2020)

OTHER ACTIVITIES
She is a member of the High Performance Athletes' Programme of the Brazilian Air Force [FAB], and holds the rank of sergeant. In 2019 she was named as a representative of the canoe slalom athletes' committee of the Pan American Canoe Federation.
