She became interested in the sport after paddling for the first time, and was then invited to join a local canoe club by coach Akie Baba. "I canoed at an outdoor event at Lake Tazawa in Semboku, Japan, and while I was fascinated by the beauty of the scenery, I was looking for something more vigorous.
