She began boxing at age 19 in Schiedam, Netherlands. (nouchkafontijn.nl, 01 Dec 2015)
:
She switched from taekwondo to boxing. "When I was 14 I went to a taekwondo class with a friend and fell in love with the sport. Five years later, I walked into a boxing gym because I wanted to get better at taekwondo. The first training session was on a Saturday morning, with older men with beer bellies. I had a lot of pain in my arms afterwards so I thought it must have been good. I went back the next week and the coach saw something in me. He told me I could do boxing matches and told me that I had to train at least five days a week. That was an eye opener, as I only trained once or twice a week with taekwondo. Before I knew it I was in the ring for my first boxing match." (ad.nl, 01 May 2021; nouchkafontijn.nl, 01 Dec 2015)

General
WORLD CHAMPION FOR 30 MINUTES
She initially won gold in the middleweight category at the 2019 World Championships in Ulan-Ude, Russian Federation, after winning the final 3-2 against Welsh boxer Lauren Price. However, Price's team protested the result and the judges reversed their decision. "I was world champion for a moment, half an hour or so. We were at the medal ceremony when it suddenly stopped and we had to go back to the changing rooms. I suddenly heard a cry of joy from her. I saw my coaches come back from the jury box. I saw them look, 'How do we tell her this?' I said, 'Hush, I already know'. It was over. It was misery, deep misery. I didn't go to the medal ceremony anymore. I didn't want to do that to myself. I never got that silver medal and I don't need it. I packed my things and went out into the street. I just thought, 'I have to get out of here'. It was in Siberia, outside it was minus five [degrees]. I ended up in a bar, ordered a pizza and a tiramisu." (ad.nl, 01 May 2021)
