She began boxing at age 19 in Schiedam, Netherlands. (nouchkafontijn.nl, 01 Dec 2015)
:
She switched from taekwondo to boxing. "When I was 14 I went to a taekwondo class with a friend and fell in love with the sport. Five years later, I walked into a boxing gym because I wanted to get better at taekwondo. The first training session was on a Saturday morning, with older men with beer bellies. I had a lot of pain in my arms afterwards so I thought it must have been good. I went back the next week and the coach saw something in me. He told me I could do boxing matches and told me that I had to train at least five days a week. That was an eye opener, as I only trained once or twice a week with taekwondo. Before I knew it I was in the ring for my first boxing match." (ad.nl, 01 May 2021; nouchkafontijn.nl, 01 Dec 2015)
