Growing up on the Matsu Islands in Chinese Taipei, she began wrestling as a hobby. She then met coach Ke Wen-Ming, who was impressed by her talent and convinced her to switch to boxing. "My parents always fought when I was a child. I wanted to step in when they were fighting so neither of them would get hurt." (toeicok.com.tw, 01 Jan 2015; chinatimes.com, 03 Oct 2013)

TRAINING WITH BOYS
She moved to Hsinchu in Chinese Taipei at age 14 to start training in boxing, and on arrival discovered that she was the only girl in the team. "[The] good thing about training with the boys is that they can make you stronger very quickly. The other good thing is that they can very quickly [help] you improve your technique and tactics. In the process of playing against boys, you may cry, you may experience too much pressure, you may just collapse. [But] it's because I've been practising with the boys that I've slowly started to be able to, even if I don't do something well today, grit my teeth and keep going through it."
