AGE AND EXPERIENCE
He will be age 38 when the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo are held in 2021, and has been with coach Benjamin Musa since his first Olympic campaign at the 2008 Games in Beijing. "I'm back big time in the ring and I mean business, serious business. I've been boxing for years because boxing means everything to me. I fight, earn, feed my family and educate my children from it. My being here as captain of the Kenyan team is also a source of inspiration to the young boxers. Musa is the best coach one can think about. He took me to the 2008 Beijing Olympics and now Tokyo. He understands my needs and style of boxing." (olympicchannel.com, 22 Feb 2020; capitalfm.co.ke, 29 Feb 2020; SportsDeskOnline, 01 Mar 2020)

CHILDREN
His daughters are both named after key moments in his boxing career. If his daughter who was born in 2020 had been a boy he wanted to name him after his coach Benjamin Musa, but instead named her after his and Musa's mothers. "She is Leisa-Jane Okongo. Leisa is Musa's mother, while Jane is my mother. I named my [other] daughter Delhi after my bronze medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi." (boxingafrica.com, 24 Mar 2020)

OCCUPATION
Outside of boxing he serves in the Kenya Defence Forces. (boxingafrica.com, 30 Mar 2020; boxingafrica.com, 24 Mar 2020)
