She was inspired to take up martial arts by watching Bruce Lee movies. She started looking for a place to practise kung fu, but came across a boxing gym. "I like the adrenaline of being on the ring, of finding solutions in just seconds by analysing the rival. Otherwise punches just keep coming. I love that, despite being afraid of blood and being punched." (reporteindigo.com, 18 May 2021; lasillarota.com, 18 May 2021)

General
PERIOD CONCERN
She believes there needs to be more understanding from male coaches about the way the menstrual cycle can affect female boxers. "Not all women experience their periods the same way. I have some teammates who suffer a lot, with pain, and their performances decrease. I think that the performances of all of us decrease, but it is more visible in some. You're bleeding, losing vitamins and iron during your preparation. And the coach's demands are not the same. There has to be a preparation in terms of nutrition in order to put up with these four days in the cycle, normally, and in some cases even a week. Most of the coaches are men and maybe they are a little shy to talk about it, but a first step has been made and things are already being discussed." (olympics.com, 22 Apr 2021)
