Liliana Fernandez and Elsa Baquerizo first teamed up back in 2007 and have played together almost their entire careers, except for 2017 when US-born Baquerizo briefly played with several other partners while Fernandez was pregnant.

They competed as a partnership at the Olympic Games in 2012 and 2016. In both London and Rio they were eliminated at the round of 16, with Italian pair Greta Cicolari and Marta Menegatti defeating the Spaniards in 2012. Four years later they lost to Russian team Ekaterina Birlova and Evgenia Ukolova. In Rio, their results in the pool phase included a victory over eventual silver medallists Agatha Bednarczuk and Barbara Seixas of Brazil.

The Spanish duo secured bronze at the 2019 European Championships in Moscow, their best showing at the tournament since they won silver in 2013.
