General Interest

General
Wang Fan and Xia Xinyi began competing as a team in 2017, just over a year after Wang made her Olympic debut at the 2016 Games in Rio. Wang and her former partner Yue Yuan reached the round of 16 in Rio before they were defeated by eventual silver medallists Agatha Bednarczuk and Barbara Seixas of Brazil. Xia is competing at her first Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Wang and Xia won their first World Tour medal together during the 2018 Tour season with silver in Sydney. That season they added further silver medals in Lucerne and on home sand in Nanjing. They failed to make a podium during the 2019 World Tour, but claimed another silver during the 2020 Tour in Chetumal, Mexico. At their first World Tour Finals together in 2019 they made an impressive run to the quarterfinals where they were edged out by eventual champions Laura Ludwig and Margareta Kozuch of Germany.

Wang and Xia won the 2020 Asian Championship title with victory over compatriots Wang Jingzhe and Wen Shuhui. They are also reigning Asian Games champions following victory at the 2018 edition in Indonesia, where they beat Miki Ishii and Megumi Murakami of Japan to gold.
