General Interest

General
Ahmed Tijan and Cherif Younousse first played together back in 2014 when they competed at the U21 world championships, and teamed up permanently in 2017. Tokyo will be Tijan's Olympic debut, while Younousse is competing at his second Games after Rio, where he and former teammate Jefferson Pereira became the first Qatari beach volleyball team to play at the Olympic Games. Younousse and Pereira progressed from their pool in Rio before they were eliminated in the round of 16.

Tijan and Younousse claimed victory at the first World Tour event of 2021, on home sand in Doha. They made all three finals at the Cancun hub event in April, claiming victory at the third attempt. They also made the final at the Sochi and Gstaad World Tour events in 2021.

Tijan and Younousse have enjoyed success at continental level in recent years. They are the reigning Asian Games champions following the 2018 edition in Indonesia, while they claimed consecutive titles at the Asian championships in 2018 and 2019.
