General
LONGEVITY
In 2017 he said his longevity in the sport was down to his mental attitude. "I think the biggest thing is never thinking that I know it all. I'm always trying to improve. The second you think that you know it all, or that you can't get any better, is when I think your game starts to decline. I think that's with anything, in any kind of profession. I'm constantly trying to get better, even at 37 [in 2017]. I think that helps a lot." (fivb.com, 19 Oct 2017)

MOST DECORATED WORLD TOUR ATHLETE
In 2017 he was the most decorated athlete in terms of postseason World Tour awards, and had competed at three Olympic Games, winning one gold medal. "As far as checking off things on my bucket list for my career, I think I've checked them all off. I'd like to win another world champs. It's been a while since I've even medalled, the last time I medalled was in 2009. Obviously, I'd like to play in another Olympics and medal there as well. It's been almost 10 years since Beijing. It's been a while, I'd like to do well in the Olympics [in Tokyo]." (fivb.com, 19 Oct 2017)

FROM SWITZERLAND TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
He was born in Switzerland to a German father and Swiss mother. The family moved to Alaska, United States of America, when he was one. (FIVB, 16 Jun 2006; bvbinfo.com, 11 Jul 2016)

ACADEMY
He runs the Phil Dalhausser Beach Volleyball Academy in Orlando, FL, United States of America. (pdbva.com, 01 Jan 2021)
