He has also represented Japan in indoor volleyball, competing at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, and the 2006 and 2010 world championships. He played for Japanese V.League club Sakai Blazers from 2005 until 2016. He was named V.League Rookie of the Year for 2006, and Most Valuable Player for the 2010/11 season. He originally practised kendo while in primary school, but joined the volleyball team in middle school as there was not a kendo team. He began playing beach volleyball in 2014 after he was not called up to the Japanese volleyball team.
