General Interest

General
Slovenia are making their Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020. They earned their place at the Games through the FIBA Men's Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Kaunas, Lithuania, which was held in June and July 2021.

At the qualifying tournament, Slovenia went through the group phase unbeaten before beating Venezuela in the semifinal. In the final they defeated hosts Lithuania to book their ticket to their first Olympic Games, and deny perennial contenders and three-time medallists Lithuania a place for the first time since they began competing as an independent nation.

Slovenia arrive in Tokyo as the reigning European champions, having claimed the 2017 EuroBasket title with a 93-85 win over Serbia in the final. Slovenia's EuroBasket title is their only major tournament win. Their most significant result at the World Cup is a seventh-place finish in 2014.
