FATHER'S REQUEST
He acquired a teacher's licence after completing his degree in physical education at the University of Tsukuba following a request from his father, who had had difficulties finding a job after retiring from competition. "I was told to get a teacher's licence by my father. He even said to me, 'It is the only thing I would like to ask'. I wouldn't be born without my father, and he was the reason why I took up basketball. I think that he was the one who made a foundation in my sporting career, so I was playing in order to surpass him. My father influenced me to become who I am now." (sportingnews.com, 30 Mar 2020)
