He was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the first round, 26th overall pick, of the 2018 MLB Draft, while he was a student at American Heritage High School in Plantation, FL. In 2018 he played two games for the Sox's Rookie-level Gulf Coast League affiliate team, before a thumb ligament injury put him out of action for the rest of the season. In 2019 he played 118 games for A-level team Greenville Drive, before being promoted to Double-A team Portland Sea Dogs in 2021. JOEY VOTTO AND THE CHOKE UP
He modelled his choke up [higher hand position on bat] and two-strike style [facing a pitcher on two strikes] on that of his childhood baseball hero, Canadian player Joey Votto. "The choke up on the bat and two-strike approach - it was just something that I watched him do, and I tried it out for myself and I liked the results I was getting. I liked the way I felt in the box. I liked the way I would compete when I did formulate a good two-strike approach. I'm looking to keep that, because I'm feeling really comfortable now."
