In May 2017 she underwent surgery to her right shoulder in Halle, Germany and returned to competition in November 2017 at the Indian International Series event in Hydrebad. (bwfbadminton.com, 23 Nov 2017; thestar.com.my, 23 May 2017)
She suffered an injury to her right hand at the 2017 India Super Series event in New Delhi in April of that year. Despite the injury she competed at the 2017 Malaysia Super Series Premier event in Kuching during the same month, but her and partner Peng Soon Chan were defeated in the first round which she attributed to her injured hand. (thestar.com.my, 07 Apr 2017)
She has a history of knee problems dating back to 2008 and, in early 2014, after first attempting traditional remedies, she entered a rehabilitation programme in an attempt to strengthen her knees. Her right knee was suffering from a meniscus tear and a partial ligament tear, while her left knee was suffering from a small meniscus tear. The rehabilitation forced her to miss two months of competition before returning for the Singapore Open in April 2014. She then underwent knee surgery on both her knees in May 2014, which prevented her from competing at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. She had further knee issues in January 2017 causing her to miss the Malaysian Masters in Sibu the same month, and resulting in restricted training. (thestar.com.my, 31 Jan 2017, 04 Jun 2014, 04 Feb 2014, 03 Jan 2014)
In October 2016 she suffered an ankle injury at the Denmark Open in Odense. (thestar.com.my, 31 Jan 2017)
She had a problem with her back during the Selangor Open in February 2012 and again at the All England Championships the following month where she won bronze in mixed doubles. (nst.com.my, 16 Mar 2012; thestar.com.my, 11 Mar 2012)

She began playing badminton at age 10, and started serious training at age 13 after she enrolled at Bukit Jalil Sports School in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. (star2.com, 10 Sep 2016)
:
"My dad encouraged me to take up the sport. But after I joined the Bukit Jalil Sports School I don't know why I stayed, as the programme was very tough. I just wanted to give myself a shot at the game. Though my father encouraged me, he never put pressure on me. I think that helped." "Before I go out, I always check the mirror to see if I look good. It boosts my confidence. Before I stride onto the badminton court, I must feel confident. Maybe 10% or 20% of it comes from the way I dress." (thesundaily.my, 22 Dec 2020)
