REUNION WITH RIO COACH
In January 2021 he and mixed doubles partner Liu Ying Goh began training again with coach Eei Hui Chin who had previously coached them at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro where they won silver. "It was quite a surprise that we're back as a team. I never thought this could happen. It's an arrangement from our sponsors. We're all excited with this timely partnership. Eei Hui is still very passionate and wants to help us, as much as we need her guidance. We have trained under her for many years when we were with the national team, so it shouldn't be hard for us to adapt to her training programme." (thestar.com.my, 02 Jan 2021)

TURNING PRO
In 2018 he and mixed doubles partner Liu Ying Goh decided to leave the national training programme in Malaysia to turn professional. In May 2020 they reached an agreement with the Badminton Association of Malaysia [BAM] to train with the national team twice a week at the Malaysia Badminton Academy [ABM] in Bukit Kiara to help them prepare for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. "There were differences in the thought process with the coach. So Goh and I were forced to choose another path. I was very excited to return to training in Bukit Kiara because it never crossed my mind. I thought once we left BAM, it was impossible to train in Bukit Kiara again. I see our return to ABM as a win-win situation for everybody. Liu Ying and I get to train with younger and faster players and, in return, we get to pass down our knowledge and experience to them." OTHER ACTIVITIES
In July 2020 he launched a disposable protective and surgical mask product called Chan.Ger. He has also donated a percentage of the profit from sales of the product to professional Malaysian badminton players who were affected by the cancellation of events during the COVID-19 pandemic.
