DOUBLES PARTNER
He first joined forces with men's doubles partner Mohammad Ahsan in 2012. The pair won men's doubles gold at the 2013 and 2015 world championships but parted ways following the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. They then teamed up again two years later and won gold at the 2019 World Championships in Basel, Switzerland. The pair are nicknamed 'The Daddies', as they are both fathers and senior members of the national team. Previously Setiawan was teamed with Markis Kido, and together the pair won gold in men's doubles at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. "Together with Kido we reached the top, but it was hard to maintain. I got the communication part right with Ahsan. We understand each other and know what we want in the game."
