In January 2020 he sustained a broken nose and cuts to his face as he was involved in a traffic accident in Malaysia after competing at the 2020 Malaysia Masters in Kuala Lumpur, an event he had won hours earlier. He was diagnosed with an orbital floor fracture in the right eye in February 2020 and underwent surgery. He returned to competition in December 2020.
