"I started in 2000. My squash coach Tamer Raafat at school was in the badminton national team and I had just quit gymnastics due to an injury the year before and it was hard to get back, then I decided to try badminton. It's not popular at all in Egypt but I trained for three weeks and won three matches in a U12 championships and finished third place, and started my journey from there." RETIREMENT PLANS
She plans to retire from the sport after competing at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. "There's a big possibility that the 2020 Olympic Games will be my last Games, because I am stressed due to the travelling in tournaments and maintaining the world ranking. Badminton is my first love and I cannot stay away from it, so I will continue being on the court as a coach. I will focus on my academy, and I am also interested in coaching Para badminton players." (rosaelyoussef.com, 24 Dec 2019; egyptsportsnetwork.net, 06 Sep 2019)

FURTHER EDUCATION
In 2012 she graduated with a master's degree in biomedical science from the University of Bath in England. She was advised to go to Bath by Welsh badminton player Richard Vaughan, who also played badminton at the university. "I wanted to do my master's and train as well. Richard told me to come to Bath because it was so strong academically as well as in badminton." Six years later she earned her doctoral degree in pharmacology from Cairo University in Egypt. ACADEMY
In 2013 she established the Hadia Hosny Badminton Academy in Egypt. "I think we do have really good juniors who can later on qualify, but we have to motivate and support them. I can see some juniors in my academy and hopefully they will be African and Arab champions." (Instagram team profile, 15 Aug 2020; CGTN Africa YouTube channel, 25 Jul 2017; LinkedIn profile, 01 Jan 2015)

"The 2014 Peace and Sport Cup in Dubai was the first event only for women, and then the African BWF committee thought that they could have me as their representative."
