Ireland's mixed 4x400m relay team qualified for Tokyo through their performance at the 2021 World Relays, where they progressed from their heat courtesy of the fourth-fastest time. Their time in the heat would have won them a medal in the final had they managed to repeat it, but they ran just under three-and-a-half seconds slower in the final to finish seventh.
